REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Aug 7: Police on Tuesday arrested 38 people for smoking in public places in Kathmandu.

Metropolitan Police Range said the smokers were arrested from New Road, Durbar Marg, Kamalpokhari, Thankot, Gaushala and Singha Durbar areas and freed after the rulebreakers promised that they won´t smoke in public again. They were also fined Rs 100 and were handed over to their kin.

Anti-smoking law of Nepal has banned smoking in public places including hotels and restaurants and on public transport since last year but authorities started taking action only lately.
