DEUKHURI, Aug 3: Seven people were killed in separate incidents of flood and landslides in Dang and Gulmi on Friday.
Three people, including a police constable, lost their lives in a flood that inundated several villages in Dang district.
As the swollen Rapti River entered into Deukhuri area of Dang on Thursday night following incessant rainfall, many VDCs including Lalmatiya, Sishaniya, Sonpur, Gangaparaspur, Gobardiha, Satbariya, Bela, Gadhawa, Chailahi and Rajpur were submerged on Friday.
Ram Bahadur Rana, an Armed Police Force (APF) constable, who was involved in rescue work, died after being swept away by the flood in Sonpur VDC, according to APF inspector Ishwor DC. The 27-year-old breathed his last while receiving treatment at a hospital in Lamahi.
Similarly, Khairun Nisha, 52, of Sisniya VDC-9, was swept away while trying to collect firewood floating in the swollen Rapti River. Her dead body was later recovered from Khilatpur of Sonpur VDC. Gyan Bahadur Pun, 40, also died by drowning in Supaila Khola of Gobardiha VDC.
Meanwhile, four of a Dalit family died in a landslide in a village of Gulmi on Friday morning. Ghanshyam BK, 42, a resident of Thulo Lumpek VDC-2, lost his wife Bhumi, 32, son Santa Bahadur, 13, daughters Muna, 11 and Bipana, 6 to the landslide.
Ghanshyam and his son Keshar, 10, who were also in the house, however, survived the landslide.
