Tokyo High Court quashes appeal filed against review of Manali's case

REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, July 31: The Tokyo High Court on Tuesday has quashed an appeal against the retrial of the Govinda Prasad Mainali case, paving the way for Mainali to get clean chit in the high-profile Tokyo murder case.

Earlier on June 7, the Tokyo High Court Public Prosecutors Office had lodged an objection shortly after the high court´s decision to grant  a retrial of the case.

The court had granted retrial of the case on the basis of a new DNA testing, which suggested that Mainali, who was serving life for murdering 39-year-old female employee of Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) in 1997, may be innocent.

Mainali, who was serving his jail term for 15 years, had been released following the verdict.
