DHANGADHI, July 29: Police on Sunday arrested a youth who is allegedly a member of a group that attempted to rob Mahendranagar branch of NCC Bank in Attaria, Kailali and exploded a bomb.
Bir Bahadur Dhami, 22, of Jogbudha-1, Tulawadi, Dadeldhura, who had been currently residing at Malakheti-2, has been arrested. Dhami was a former Maoist combatant who had chosen voluntary retirement.
On July 14, nine people entered the bank carrying two pistols and five bombs at 3:30 in the morning.They were carrying oxygen cylinder and gas cylinder to cut the locks of the bank.
The police said that three to four members of the group involved in the unsuccessful bank robbery were former combatants. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Ghanashyam Aryal, said that the police have already identified all the members of the gang that was involved in the crime. He said that the police is searching for the absconding robbers and their ring leader.
Dhami has accepted his role in the crime. "They made the plan and asked me to join them. They told me that they had previous experience and there was nothing to worry," he said.
Their plan was foiled after the security guards at the bank managed to inform the police on time.
