Fire in agro farm kills 145 goats, property worth Rs 2m gutted

TEK NARAYAN BHATTARAI

PALPA, July 24: 145 goats have been charred to death after a fire engulfed a farm in Syangja, on Tuesday.

The Melmilap Agricultural Farm in Sankhar VDC-5, was caught on fire early this morning, causing a loss worth Rs 2 million.

According to Ramakant Bhattarai, chairman of the farm, the fire might have started due to short-circuit. However, he did not ruled out the possibility of someone setting the farm on fire. "It was raining in the morning when we woke up and saw the farm was burning," he told Republica online on phone.

Eight youths, all foreign returnees, have been running the farm. Ratnapur police have been investigating the incident.

The investigation has been hampered by the rain, as the finger and foot prints have been destroyed, said police inspector Ashok Kumar Shrivastav
