REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, July 24: Indian ambassador to Nepal Jayanta Prasad met UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the Maoist party headquarters in Peris Danda, on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Prasad inquired about Nepal’s latest political developments, according to Maoist leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara.

In reply, Dahal told him that the political parties are trying to forge consensus on standing issues including the upcoming polls and expressed his hope that the parties would soon reach an understanding and be able to end the existing political stalemate.

It is also said the Indian ambassador showed concerns over the objection by Maoist leaders to the the Bilateral Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement (BIPPA) that the Maoist Vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai-led government signed with India, earlier.

On the occasion, Dahal also congratulated the Indian envoy on India´s successful  presidential election and extended his wishes to the newly elected president, Pranab Mukherjee.

Similarly, German Ambassador Grafin von Rodern , who is returning to Germany after completing his term in Nepal also made a farewell call to Chairman Dahal.
