REPUBLICA

JAAJARKOT, July 22: A school in Jajarkot has been charging Rs 5,000 to students for their School Leaving Certificates. Saraswati High School at Thalaraikar-5 Tataguyla has been charging Rs 5,000 for SLC certificates.

Of the 106 students participating in the SLC exams held this year, 83 had passed. Chairman of the school management committee Bhim Bahadur Budha, however, expressed ignorance. “I have also heard rumor.

Action will be taken against the schools if proven guilty,” he said. However, the principal of Saraswati High School is out of the district for the past one month. Jaya Krishna Poudel, a teacher at school, admitted that the school had been additionally charging students for their SLC certificates.

District Education Officer (DEO) Gariman Thapa said community schools are not allowed to charge students additionally on any pretext.
