KATHMANDU, June 1: Right 11 years back from today, a heartrending massacre had occurred in Nepal, which killed the then King Birendra, Queen Aishworya, Prince duo Deependra and Nirajan and Princess Shruti.

The widely-known macabre Royal massacre of the day had finished off entire family of King Birendra, which is still afresh in the mind of entire Nepali denizen. However, the mystery is still unsolved who had murdered the Royal family members for what reason.

Though a Palace Massacre Probe Commission headed by then Speaker Taranath Ranabhat made public a report alleging then Prince Deependara of taking lives of the entire family members, general public never acknowledged the finding of the report.

To all surprise, then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala had termed the gruesome murder of Royal members a ´grand design´. But it never came to public as what was behind the incident.

It is noted that King Birendra had embraced the aspiration of people by granting democratic system to the country following the People´s Movement-2046 BS (1990).
