KATHMANDU, May 28: The rebel faction of the UCPN(Maoist) led by Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya is making preparations to call a national gathering of its supporters within the second week of June to chalk out strategy in the changed political context.
According to party leaders, the meeting will decide whether to forge unity in the party or to split the party.
The meeting will identify the basis of party unity if the faction decides to reconcile with the establishment faction of the Maoist party, or will chalk out strategy if the gathering sees no basis for unity.
The faction has called a meeting of its central committee for May 30 and the meeting will decide the date for the national gathering.
"It is a national crisis. The leaders will inform cadres of the current political situation and they will take the suggestions of the floor to form the party´s work plan and tactical line," said CC member Maheshwar Dahal.
According to him, it is necessary to inform party cadres how party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai dissolved the Constituent Assembly to serve the interests of foreign forces.
"We will do a review of the situation. The gathering will decide how to move ahead," said another CC member, Purna Gharti Magar.
