KATHMANDU, May 23: Young cricketers in the closed camp training for the U-19 Asia Cup played the third practice match on Wednesday and Team ´Blue´ captained by Prithu Baskota won the match by 55 runs over Team ´Red´ led by Krishna Karki.
Team ´Blue´ elected to bat first and put up 217/8 in allotted 50 overs.
[brak]Skipper Baskota and Fazlur Rehman scored half-centuries to put up a good total. Prithu scored 70 runs off 92 balls with three sixes and two boundaries while Rehman remained unbeaten at 51-run off 51 balls. Rehman also struck three sixes and two boundaries.
Opener Subash Khakurel scored 21 runs and Pradeep Airee blasted 37 runs. Naresh Budhayer chipped in with 27 runs off 58 balls. Team ´Red´ gave away 34 runs as extras including 23 wides.
Bhuwan Karki took three wickets while Krishna Karki and Rahul BK claimed two wickets each.
Chasing a 218-run target, opener Bijay Ghalan remained unbeaten with 81 runs off 130 balls but it could not turn to be enough for Team ´Red´ for avoiding defeat. Rahul BK scored 24 runs off 36 balls.
Nischal Pandey dismissed four batsmen to bundle out Team ´Red´ at 196 runs in 49.5 overs. Binod Lama claimed two wickets.
Cricket Association Nepal has called in 24 U-19 cricketers in the closed camp training to prepare Nepali team for the U-19 Asia Cup to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from June 23 to July 1.
