REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, May 20: Stating that the last Tuesday´s agreement between the major parties is against the spirit of the interim constitution, 28 Madhesi lawmakers from the ruling UCPN (Maoist) have joined the protest against the 11-province federal model.

"We demand autonomy and the right to self-determination in the provinces," the lawmakers said in a statement. [brak]

They further said the federal map of the country should be drawn on the basis of the reports of the State Restructuring Committee and the State Restructuring Commission. The lawmakers have also demanded that women, Dalits and Muslims be given special rights.

They have also expressed their solidarity with the ongoing agitation of Madhesi, Tharu and ethnic communities.
