KATHMANDU, May 17: Unified CPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Nepal, Scott H. DeLisi, had a meeting on Thursday morning at the former´s residence at Lazimpat.
In the meeting, the U.S. ambassador is learnt to have appreciated the role played by the UCPN (Maoist) in the constitution-making process.
Ambassador DeLisi said Nepal was entering a new age and that all the foreign friends should equally support it, and also assured chairman Dahal of the U.S. government´s continued support ahead, according to chairman Dahal´s press coordinator Santosh Paudel.
On the occasion, chairman Dahal said that his party was committed to taking the country ahead on the road to economic prosperity by formulating the constitution on the side of the people.
In the talks, the U.S. Ambassador had given assurances that the U.S. Government would soon delist the UCPN (Maoist) from the list of terrorist organizations.
He also stated that the U.S. government was willing to collaborate with the UCPN (Maoist), citing the peace process in Nepal had moved forward on the efforts of the UCPN (Maoist) alone and that all the foreign friends and governments were confidence of the party for playing crucial role in constitution writing.
Paudel said topics as constitution-writing, formation of a national unity government and the plan for economic prosperity as well as U.S. cooperation were discussed in the meeting.
