  Envoy Bairagi submits credentials to FAO

KATHMANDU, May 15: Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organization in Geneva, Shankar D Bairagi on Tuesday presented letters of credence to the Director General of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Jose Graziano da Silva in Rome.

According to a press statement issued by the Office of Permanent Representatives of Nepal to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Bairagi, who is also concurrently accredited to FAO in Rome, also held a bilateral meeting with the FAO director general.

The envoy, while thanking FAO for its continuous support to Nepal in the area of food and agriculture over the past 60 years, also stressed on the need for more focused and targeted support from FAO in strengthening agricultural productivity and food security.

He also pointed out the urgency of focused attention on mitigating the effects of climate change on food security. In this context, he emphasized the need for providing Nepal with climate-resilient technology and specific adaptation support measures.
