  Maoist calls emergency CC meeting

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, May 6: The UCPN (Maoist) has called an emergency meeting of its central committee (CC) for Monday afternoon to discuss state restructuring and the ongoing agitation in the far-western region.

"The meeting will discuss specifically state restructuring and party´s position on the ongoing protests in the farwestern region," said central committee member Ram Rijhan Yadav, who is also the prime minister´s press advisor.

The people of nine districts in the farwestern region are on strike demanding that the farwestern region should not be divided into separate province while federalizing the country. Though the top leaders requested the agitating people to withdraw the strike while promised to heed their demand, the protestors have refused to call off the strike.

The meeting will take place at the Maoist party headquarters in Paris Danda at 3 pm, said Yadav.
