KATHMANDU, April 26: The Nepal Copyrights Registrar´s Office and the Society of Economic Journalists- Nepal (SEJON) organized a discussion titled ´Provision of Copyrights in Nepal: Prospects and Challenges here Thursday on the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Registrar at Nepal Copyrights Registrar´s Office, Bisu Kumar K.C. said the government was serious regarding checking the violation of copyrights.
He also urged writers and creators to have their works registered, adding that efforts were on for expanding the coverage of the Office, which is presently limited to the Capital, throughout the country.
SEJON vice-president Gokarna Raj Awasthi and general secretary Bigyan Raj Adhikari, general secretary of the Society for Collection of Music Royalty Bharat Shakya, president of Nepal Music Industries Association, Padma Bahadur Budha, and president of Nepal National Book Sellers and Publishers´ Association, Ram Chandra Timothy stressed effective legal measures for protecting the IPR.
