  Laxmi Hyundai, MMC extend deal

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, April 22: Top-tier football team Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) and Laxmi Intercontinental, the authorized dealer of Hyundai Motors for Nepal, have extended their association for the third year.

Laxmi Hyundai renewed the deal with six-time league champion MMC, which is all set to mark its 30th anniversary, as the chief sponsor at a function held in the capital on Sunday.

As the chief sponsor for a year Laxmi Hyundai will provide Rs 1.5 million to MMC. Last year the sponsorship was worth Rs 1.1 million. Similarly, MMC will be named Laxmi Hyundai MMC until the contract expires.

MMC President Tashi Ghale and Laxmi Hyundai Executive Director Anjan Shrestha signed the deal on behalf of their respective institutions. Another executive director of Laxmi Hyundai Nirakar Shrestha was also present on the occasion.

Similarly, MMC also renewed its co-sponsorship deal with Sumi Distillery Private Limited and Hama Merchant and Finance Limited. As the co-sponsors, Sumi Distillery and Hama will provide the club Rs 250,000 each for a year.

Speaking on the occasion, Anjan Shrestha of Laxmi Hyundai said the company was proud of MMC´s achievements in football and the sponsorship was renewed as part of the company´s corporate social responsibility.

Disclosing the reason behind choosing MMC for association, Shrestha said, "We are attracted by the spirit of MMC and Hyundai has been giving priority to football in other parts of the world, thus we chose the club."

MMC President Tashi Ghale vowed to make the team better in coming days and said that Laxmi Hyundai has also assured of extending sponsorship in future. He also thanked the sponsor and co-sponsors.

"We feel proud to have the logo of Laxmi Hyundai in the club´s jersey," Ghale said, adding that the club´s target was to win both the league and the President´s Cup last season. "But it was unfortunate that we failed to achieve our target due to technical flaws of ANFA," Ghale said.

He also praised his team´s skipper Anil Gurung as a professional player. "Now our target is to lift the British Gorkha Cup and the league title," Ghale said, adding, "We will also hire three professional football players for the league as our aim is to lift the league title on the occasion of the club´s 30th anniversary."

MMC skipper Gurung echoed Ghale. "Though some players who played in the previous season have left the club, there are young academy players in the team and our aim is to win the British Gorkha Cup and the league."
