  SPORTS BRIEFS: CAN names 33 players for ACC U-16

KATHMANDU, Jan 17: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has selected 33 players for the ACC U-16 Elite Cup Cricket Tournament to be held in Kathmandu from March 8-18.

The players were selected on the basis of their performance in the recently held Boost U-16 National Cricket Tournament.


From among the 33, 18 finalists will be selected after receiving their x-ray reports from the Asian Cricket Council.


Gongabu Volleyball kicks off

KATHMANDU, Jan 17: Deep Jyoti, Nepal Army and APF started on a winning note in the Fourth Gongabu Deep Jyoti Cup Men´s Volleyball Tournament that kicked off on Sunday at New Bus Park.

Deep Jyoti edged past Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center 25-23, 25-17, 16-25, 29-27. Nepal Army edged past G For Sports Club 25-16, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18. Likewise, APF saw off Darshan Transport, Pokhara, 25-15, 25-14, 25-20.

The top three teams of the tournament will bag cash prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively.


BST, Reliance in BST Cup semis

KATHMANDU, Jan 17: The hosts BST and Reliance advanced into the semifinals of the BST Cup Inter-college Boys´ Basketball Tournament on Sunday.

BST edged past Canvas 42-26 with 17 points from Santosh and Reliance beat Kathmandu Academy 44-33. Rohit Lama contributed 20 points for Reliance.

Likewise, St Lawrence and Lincoln too secured semifinal berths. St Lawrence defeated Sirius 42-34, riding on 12 points of Bhupendra, and Lincoln had a narrow 54-48 win over Siddhartha Vanasthali. Arjun Yonjan scored 12 points for Lincoln.
