Six NC cadres injured in YCL attack

MANOJ ADHIKARI

GORKHA, Dec 24: Cadres of the Young Communist League (YCL) on Wednesday night attacked cadres of Nepali Congress-affiliated Tarun Dal in Gorkha district. Around half a dozen Tarun Dal cadres, including general secretary Pushpa Parajuli, were injured in the attack.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Suresh Basnet said the injured persons are in a stable condition after receiving treatment in a local health center. The police had escorted them safely to Namaste Guest House after treatment.

“Maoists had thrashed Gorkha secretary of Tarun Dal Dhruba Panta last Monday and they have attacked these Tarun Dal cadres, who had come to the district to protest the attack,” Basnet said.

Around 20 Tarun Dal cadres had arrived from Kathmandu in a microbus to stage protest against the attack on Panta. The YCL cadres apparently attacked them to foil the protest program.

According to DSP Basnet, the Tarun Dal cadres returned to Kathmandu after conducting their program. Security persons had remained alert throughout the day in Gorkha fearing a confrontation but both YCL and Tarun Dal conducted corner meetings at separate places without inviting any trouble.
