KATHMANDU, Dec 8: The Republican Sports Federation of Nepal submitted a 15-point memorandum to Youth and Sports Minister Ganesh Tiwari Nepali on Tuesday demanding reforms in the sports sector. The memorandum stressed on the need for scientific restructuring of sports sector.
The memorandum signed by Jayendra Bahadur Chand, president of the federation, accused the National Sports Council (NSC) of lacking clear vision, policy and programs and urged the government to form an inclusive sports commission. Likewise, the federation demanded financial and social security for talented players and compensation for players and officials, who are incapacitated while being involved in sports.
Sports education needs to be developed as a discipline in order to create job opportunities, stated one of the demands.
Life insurance for players, identification of talented players and engaging them in sports, organizing sports programs from local level to national level, modernization of physical infrastructures and the need to utilize, protect and maintain the existing infrastructures were among other demands of the federation.
Judo in Saptari
KATHMANDU, Dec 8: The third edition of the Late Lokendra Shrestha Memorial Open National Judo Championship is scheduled to be held on December 17 and 18 in Rajbiraj, Saptari, Saptari District Judo Association stated on Tuesday.
The championship to be held under the aegis of Nepal Judo Association and support of Saptari District Sports Development Committee will feature six weight categories each in men´s and women´s sections.
Men´s category will feature 50 kg, 55kg, 60 kg, 66 kg, 73 kg and open weight categories, whereas women´s section will feature 40 kg, 44 kg, 48 kg, 52 kg, 57 kg and open weight categories.
In total, 180 players including 60 women from 22 teams will participate in the championship.
