KATHMANDU, Nov 8: The third edition of the Asian Indoor Games (AIG), which kicked off 10 days ago with the slogan of "For A Rising Asia", concluded on Sunday. The closing ceremony was held amidst a grand ceremony at the Indoor Athletics Palace at Hanoi, Vietnam with the slogan "Farewell to Friends".


Altogether 34 nations won medals in the regional sports fiesta contested by around 3,472 players from 43 Asian countries.

China secured the first position with 48 golds, 25 silvers and 19 bronzes, while the hosts Vietnam came second with 42 golds, 30 silvers and 22 bronzes and Kazakhstan finished third winning 21 gold, 16 silver and 21 bronze medals.

India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh were the South Asian countries to win medals while Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan and Maldives returned empty handed.


Wins for Greenland, Golden Gate in basketball

KATHMANDU, Nov 8: Greenland and Golden Gate emerged victorious under boys´ category on Sunday in the ongoing Fourth Valley Public Inter-school Basketball Tournament.

Greenland defeated Om Gyan Mandir 36-18 with 12 points from Deepesh Karki and Golden Gate saw off Newton Children´s Academy 31-22 riding on 10 points of Surajan Shah.

Similarly, Gauri Shankhar registered a narrow 32-29 win over Himalayan and Gyan Niketan edged past Deep jyoti 45-24. Innovative thrashed Bhanu Bhakta Memorial 39-19 and Kathmandu Xavier´s crushed Babylon 46-17.

Under girls´ section, Daffodil, Bishnumati and Neric emerged victorious.
