The golf course, which is situated on the premise of BP Koirala Health and Science Foundation, has been leased by Nirvana Club for 50 years. Nirvana Club is not only using the golf course for breeding cows, which is against the contract signed between Nirvana and the foundation, but is also involved in acts of deforestation.

Speaking at an interaction program on Tuesday, Dharan Golf Club´s chairman Dal Bahadur Rai said, “Excessive deforestation by Nirvana has adversely affected the golf course.” According to Rai, the golf course has dried because Nirvana has been using water required for the course to feed the cows and clean the sheds.
BP Koirala Foundation and the authorities concerned have turned a deaf ear to the repeated appeals to scrap the lease, said Nepal Golf Association´s Central Vice-Chairman Shankar Man Shakya. Nirvana has discouraged professional players by not letting them enter the course for free, Shakya added.

Representatives from the business community, civil society and political parties urged the people, players and institutions affiliated to sports to help save the golf course.
The golf course was established by the British government during the 60s and was declared as one of the ten best golf courses in the world during the 80s.
