SC mulls night shift hearing

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: The Supreme Court is planning to set up evening court at the Kathmandu District Court within the next 11 months.



The district court will provide the additional services from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.[break]



It has been reported that the service was managed as an alternative to the court service recipients who could not manage time during the office hour, to increase public access to justice and manage the official workload through modern and comfortable way through the additional court service.



The service will be started in Kathmandu within the beginning of the next fiscal year.



Similarly, the services shall be extended to other towns---Biratnagar, Rajbiraj, Janakpur, Birgunj, Bhairahawa and Nepalgunj --- in the second and third phase.



The services will be expanded to other district courts based on the evaluation and the experiences and achievements received from such courts in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, and America, it is informed.



A committee formed under the coordination of Justice Tahir Ali Ansari of the Supreme Court recently submitted a report on the prospects of initiating night court services to Chief Justice Khila Raj Regmi.



Receiving the report, Chief Justice Regmi urged the Registrar to take the proposal in the full bench, said Assistant spokesperson of the SC, Hemanta Rawal.
