“We have plans to maintain some 300,000 quintals in buffer stock. We will also contribute 80,000 quintals for SAARC Food Security Bank,” Hari Narayan Shah, general manager of NFC, said at a program organized to celebrate 36th anniversary of the state-owned food utility on Friday.
He also said NFC has increased stock in both buffer stock SAARC Food Security Bank by cent percent this fiscal year. Shah also said NFC was also planning to maintain emergency food stock to help people during natural disasters.
Shah also informed that NFC will continue to sell different brands of rice under its mobile sale program in the current fiscal year as well.
Apart from distributing food, NFC is also coming up with innovative plans to raise its turnover. The plans range from setting up a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refilling plant in Hetauda to construction of commercial building and selling off its unused land.
“Public enterprises can play a big role in intervening market and control black marketing. They, however, should maintain transparency,” Shah added.
NFC handled a total of 450,000 quintals of food commodities in 2009/10 under its purchase, sale, supply and stock program.
