"The United Nations has been a long-standing development partner of Nepal. It has also been facilitating the peace process of Nepal through UNMIN for the last three years. We are grateful to the UN for its continued partnership in our socio-economic development and support to the peace process," Nepal said, speaking on the occasion of the UN Day on Friday. [break]
Speaking on the same occasion, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Robet Piper, highlighted the works done by UN agencies in Nepal over the past one year.
He further said that the UN wants to see "stability in broader sense" and progress on issues like rule of law, equity and democracy.

Tough challenges lie ahead: Landgren
UNMIN Chief Karin Landgren Friday said Nepal faces ahead tough challenge of completing the drafting of the constitution and integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist former combatants. She also urged the political parties to demonstrate flexibility to achieve people´s aspiration for the constitution and success of the peace process.
"In the time remaining, UNMIN will continue to do all that it can to support the peace process. But it is for the political leaders themselves to apply the flexibility, and above all the vision, to bring this to a successful conclusion," Landgren said addressing a program organized to mark the UN Day.

Stating that there is a fresh sense of urgency among the parties to complete the peace process by January 14, she urged the parties to have more sustained negotiation and cooperation to complete the peace process in the agreed deadline.
