KATHMANDU, Sept 20: Constituent Assembly (CA) members from the CPN-UML have launched a pressure campaign to get top leaders to expedite the constitution writing process.

As part of the campaign, 39 UML lawmakers on Monday called on CA Chairman Subas Nembang and urged him to forward the preliminary reports prepared by CA committees to the Constitutional Committee (CC), which is entrusted with preparing an integrated draft of the statute incorporating all the 11 thematic reports.[break]

"The CA has failed to forward the preliminary reports to the CC due to the political parties´ failure to resolve their differences on some crucial contentious issues," a lawmaker quoted Nembang as saying. Nembang assured the CA members that he would push top leaders to settle the issues at the earliest.

UML lawmakers also plan to come up with various strategies to pile pressure on top leaders of the major political parties. "We may resort to picketing at the party head offices, among other means," CA member Rabindra Adhikari told Republica.

Binda Pandey, Yam Lal Kandel, Radha Gyawali and Adhikari were among the 39 lawmakers visiting Nembang.
