According to local teacher Ram Surath Yadav, the displaced people are living in a nearby jungle. Earlier in the past too, people belonging to the Kumar, Tharu and Yogi communities used to be displaced by floods every monsoon season, he said.

“Soon after the monsoon began, we started passing nights without a wink,” said another local Bhuma Yogi. “The fear of a flood haunted us continuously.”

Bishnu Prasad Yogi, who was displaced by a Rapti flood last year, said the efforts to control the flood did not produce much effect.

The swollen Rapti has also inundated hundreds of bighas of arable land at Gadawa, Bela, Gobardila and other VDCs.
