BIRGUNJ, March 16: A businessman here has committed suicide after he could not pay the bank loan that he had taken for operating a plastic industry.

The businessman, 45-year-old Binod Gupta of Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-10, hanged himself on a noose from a ceiling fan of his bed room on Sunday night. [break]

It is said Gupta’s plastic industry, Surti Plastic Industry, was incurring big losses in the recent days due to the sharp decline in the production as a result of the long hours of power outage. Gupta had taken loan from a bank for operating the industry.

The bank had been writing to him from time to time to pay back the loan and the interest amount due to which, say Gupta’s friends, he was under great pressure. He was in great financial difficulty due to the slump in production and was not in a position to pay back the bank loan, according to the family members.

He is survived by one son and four daughters.
